Starting the Beta phase


Hello all, we at 4-Sided Studios are proud to announce that we are steadily advancing towards a Beta!

After an overall successful Alpha phase comprised of all the major features we wanted CoffeeBot to have, we are aiming to refine the gameplay and solidify the look.

This Devlog will update you on what we have achieved since our alpha and whats in progress.

We are in consideration of working on a TikTok account too, but nothing is set in stone yet. If we do, we'll mention it in a future dev log.

CUSTOMER AI

Customer behavior is developing! We have been working on giving customers more states to cycle through depending on what is happening in the cafe. 

  • Customers will have to locate a suitable table to sit at before getting any coffee.
  • If a customer gets injured, they'll wander around to get their bearings again before continuing their normal cycles.
  • If a customer gets injured in your cafe too many times, they will leave.

CAMERA (WIP and subject to change)

The camera is being refined. It will have 2 modes: 

  • 360 orbit (can orbit around Serg.io and no longer can be elevated up or down)
  • Top down (Places the camera way above Serg.io. Whether it should keep the entire cafe in frame or should follow Serg.io will be tested)

This is to help with potential motion sickness feedback recieved from our alpha. We also intend to reduce the default sensitivity and place it slightly farther away from Serg.io in 360 mode.

ASSETS

Assets will be continue to be in constant flow as we still have some whitebox and placeholder bits. Most recently a new corner table has been added for the corner table in the seating area. The whiteboxed barista counter is soon to be replaced with a fresh model.

TEXTURES

We will be testing an alternative color pallette for the walls and floor. At the moment they are a dark greyish tone but we would like to experiment with more warmer colours, perhaps brickwork walls. Solidified changes will be featured in future dev logs.

POST PROCESSING (WIP and subject to change)

Here is a small list of our first steps to solidify the look. 

  • Starfield skybox
  • LED bloom effect
  • Dimmly lit interior

CoffeeBots main sci-fi attribute are environmental assets featuring LEDs. Key assets like Serg.ios eyes, store room ingredient boxes, and trays now slightly glow/bloom. To make these pop, we dimmed the cafe light and added a few lights, we even gave Serg.io a single neon blue headlight.
